Holiday at home and enjoy the Balinese vibes this stunning North Haven resort-style family entertainer gives off.

The property at 14 Ellaway Ave has been listed for sale with a $1.1m to $1.2m price guide.

Vendor Mark and his wife bought it in 2009, seeing its potential, and were keen to sink their teeth into a project.

“I loved the uniqueness of the place,” Mark says.

“I loved those old ’80s architectural places and this one had really good bones.

“It was in awful condition and out of date and I was looking for a project, so we bought it and got to work – and after about 10 years we finished. It was a big job.

“We did pretty much everything to it – all the bathrooms, the kitchen, the laundry, we replaced all the floor coverings, all the light fittings, all the power points.

“We’ve restored some areas and got the flow and function working a bit more how we wanted.

“And it’s turned out beautifully.”

The renovation sought to infuse a modern feel into the home, while still retaining and accentuating some of its stunning existing features – namely a central atrium.

“That atrium was here but it was horrendous and we thought we could really turn it into a lovely indoor green space,” Mark says.

“Plus, the guy who created the house created a ship sculpture in the brick wall – that’s been chiselled out and I really admire the skill that’s gone into that.

“It’s an amazingly skilful carving and it’s a piece of living art in the house.”

While the home’s interior – with its four bedrooms, multiple entertaining spaces and open-plan living – was a firm focus, the couple also injected some tropical flair to create a resort-style rear yard.

“The backyard looked completely different,” Mark says.

“The pool was in and the pond was in and my wife really nailed the look with the architectural plants and the dragon trees – we were going Balinese with this.

“The tropics is one of our favourite places and it really feels like you’re on holiday year-round out there.

“It really does offer that resort feel.”

But, with the children having moved out, Mark says the time has come to downsize, and while he will be sad to see the home go, he is excited about the prospect of new owners loving what he and his wife have worked so hard to create.

“It has been an exceedingly happy house and it has played host to a lot of events with my children, who are now quite a bit older,” Mark says.

“It is now ready for another family to enjoy it and start making memories here.”

Offers for the property close at noon on September 5.
