Samsung will bring Galaxy AI to its wearables

Samsung, following the successful launch of its Galaxy S24 series featuring Galaxy AI, is expanding its AI technology to wearables. The move aims to revolutionise digital health experiences and marks a significant step in Samsung’s commitment to integrating AI across its product lineup.

In an editorial penned by TM Roh, CEO and President of Samsung MX, the company announced its intention to incorporate Galaxy AI features into future wearable devices. This initiative seeks to leverage AI to enhance health monitoring capabilities, promising a new era of intelligent health experiences for users.

“We are already planning next steps for Galaxy AI beyond smartphones — optimising it for various categories of devices across various services,” wrote TM Roh.

“In the near future, select Galaxy wearables will use AI to enhance digital health and unlock a whole new era of expanded, intelligent health experiences. Samsung will keep enriching and expanding Galaxy AI experiences across categories through collaborations with more industry-leading AI partners.”

While specific details about the upcoming AI features remain undisclosed, industry insiders speculate that they may debut alongside the highly anticipated Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch 7 series. Scheduled for release in H2 2024, these wearables are expected to be unveiled during Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Samsung’s commitment to advancing fitness and health tracking features in its wearable devices has been evident in recent years. The transition to Wear OS with the Galaxy Watch 4 opened doors to a broader ecosystem of apps and integrations, while collaborations with universities and industry partners have led to improved performance and accuracy in health monitoring.

According to TM Roh, AI holds the potential to revolutionise not only Samsung smartphones but the entire technology industry. He emphasised Samsung’s dedication to exploring innovative concepts and bringing them to life through AI integration across various devices, including smartphones, smartwatches, and tablets.

However, Roh acknowledged the challenges and responsibilities associated with AI development, citing concerns about data privacy, security, and intellectual property rights. He stressed the importance of transparent collaboration among companies to address these issues and ensure the ethical advancement of AI technologies.
