This week it was announced that multinational toy company Mattel is partnering with VR social platform Rec Room to launch an exclusive He-Man-themed pop-up shop in VR. Here users can dress up as their favorite characters from He-Man & Masters of the Universe while harnessing the power of the legendary Power Sword.

Rec Room has amassed an impressive audience thanks to its unique entertainment experience and ability to enable players to create and share their own, unique worlds,” said Mike DeLaet, global head of digital gaming at Mattel, in an official release. “As the Masters of the Universe franchise is now in its 40th year, we are looking forward to partnering with Rec Room and giving both longstanding and new fans yet another way to experience their favorite characters.”

From December 15th through January 15th, users who log in to Rec Room and visit the Rec Center will find a Castle Grayskull-themed photo booth and a Masters of the Universe (MOTU) pop-up shop complete with VR apparel based on popular characters such as He-Man, Skeletor, and Teela. Each costume is composed of three separate items. You can also purchase full avatar costumes from the Rec Room store through March 31st.

Masters of the Universe is one of the most iconic and beloved media franchises of all time, and we’re thrilled to partner with Mattel to bring He-Man, Skeletor, and Teela into Rec Room,” added Mike Schmid, head of publishing at Rec Room. “To celebrate 40 years as a franchise is an incredible milestone, and we know that Rec Room players are going to have a blast suiting up their avatars to represent their favorite characters. We hope that all MOTU fans visit the Rec Center to experience the fun of the pop-up for themselves!”

Rec Room’s partnership with Mattel is just the latest in a series of collaborations with major brands and organizations. This past April, the platform partnered with superstar YouTuber MrBeast to release an exclusive virtual t-shirt. Prior to that, the company teamed up with the National Basketball Association (NBA) to host a special in-game event in honor of the 2022 NBA postseason.

Rec Room is available free-to-play on Meta Quest, PC VR, and PlayStation VR headsets. For more information on the He-Man & Masters of the Universe VR pop-up visit here.
