Epperson’s presentation is titled “Our 18-Mile Autonomous sUAS Flight” and will be part of the conference’s Education, Remote Pilot/Operator, Strategic Management and Technical tracks.

The presentation will review the company’s participation with Oklahoma State University in the 18-mile fully autonomous beyond visual line-of-sight flight with a small UAS in an FAA authorized flight corridor. The presentation will focus on the equipment and systems used to establish and maintain air traffic situational awareness, flight safety and maintenance of well-clear throughout the flight.

Presentation Description:

This presentation will review Vigilant Aerospace’s recent participation with Oklahoma State University in an 18-mile fully autonomous beyond visual line-of-sight flight with a small UAS in an FAA authorized flight corridor. The presentation will focus on the equipment and systems used to establish and maintain air traffic situational awareness, flight safety and maintenance of well-clear throughout the flight. The flight demonstrated a specific concept of operations for long-range autonomous flight, command and control, safety equipment, detect-and-avoid software and risk mitigation processes. The flight was specifically oriented towards demonstrating systems and equipment that are economically viable for commercial small UAS operations over longer distances and for BVLOS operations and the flight was completed to establish performance and operating baselines for important upcoming R&D to develop a fully autonomous detect-and-avoid system with small radars, telemetry and transponders.
