SNEAK PEEK:

  • Ethereum developers discussed progress on testing for the Shanghai and Capella upgrade.
  • MEV-Boost, builder and relay software are inclusive in the testing process.
  • ACDE chair has published a post announcing the date and final client releases for the Shanghai activation.

This week, consensus layer (CL) client teams discussed progress on testing for the Shanghai and Capella upgrade. These tests, alongside staked ETH withdrawals, on the Zhejiang testnet and Devnet 7 is a crucial step towards improving the efficiency of Ethereum’s mining process.

The Shanghai upgrade, which includes several EIPs (Ethereum Improvement Proposals), is aimed at improving the overall performance of Ethereum’s network. The inclusion of MEV-Boost, builder, and relay software in the testing process is an indication that the Ethereum community is committed to continuously improving the platform’s functionality.

According to people familiar with the matter, MEV-Boost is particularly important because it enables miners to extract the maximum amount of value from their mining activities. This, in turn, increases the security and efficiency of the network, which benefits all users.

The fact that no issues have been identified during the testing of MEV-Boost, builder, and relay software is a positive sign. It means that the software is functioning as expected and that it may soon be implemented on Ethereum’s mainnet.

Tim Beiko, Chair of the All Core Developers Execution (ACDE) Call, has published an official blog post announcing the date and final client releases for the Shanghai activation on the Sepolia testnet. The developers have been working to ensure that the activation goes smoothly and without any issues.

Beiko has shared that the EIP 4844 Implementers’ Call, a bi-weekly meeting series focused on development for the Deneb upgrade after Shanghai, will be canceled next week. The meeting will reconvene on March 7.

The developers are keen on ensuring that the upcoming upgrades are tested thoroughly, and the cancellation of the meeting is an indication of the amount of work that is currently underway.
