The story
InVeris Training Solutions, a provider of virtual and live-fire training systems and services for law enforcement customers such as police departments, has bolstered its virtual reality (VR) capabilities with the acquisition of SURVIVR.
Texas, USA-based SURVIVR has a portfolio of readiness training solutions, including a VR police training system, as well as patented technology that will complement recent research and development undertaken at InVeris, which is working on the development of a new generation of immersive, 3D, scenario-based training.
The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, also sees Brian Hoang, co-founder of SURVIVR, join InVeris as director of VR and augmented reality strategy.
It brings together a range of simulation training solutions and services for law enforcement and military and defence customers under one roof, including InVeris’s BlueFire simulated weapons technology and VR-DT VR de-escalation and safety training solutions.
InVeris is a big player in this space. The company, headquartered in Georgia, USA, has fielded more than 15,500 live-fire ranges and 7,500 virtual systems globally during its 95-year history.

<p>Its current VR offering, VR-DT VR, uses HTC Vive Pro Eye headsets to provide a 360 degree, life-like field of view that immerses trainees in real-world environments.</p>
<p>VR-DT VR scenarios can be customised to suit the area of training and a particular customer’s community, they require as little as 10 square metres of space, and the system offers enhanced capabilities such as push to talk and after action review.</p>

<p>Commenting on the acquisition, Al Weggeman, chief executive officer of InVeris, says: “All police forces—large and small, urban and rural—need and deserve the most realistic, effective training. This acquisition by InVeris strengthens our product offering to better prepare law enforcement officers for real-life situations in their community.”</p>
<p>Hoang says SURVIVR’s VR technology is used by law enforcement departments and the US Air Force Security Forces, making it highly complementary to InVeris VR-DT: “Joining InVeris enables us to combine the best aspects of both systems, providing an unrivalled solution for existing and future customers.”</p>
