One of the best ways to assemble a formidable squad in FIFA 22 Career Mode is by signing players on Contract Expiry.

This means you don’t have to pay what could be quite costly transfer fees, and can even treat the player to a salary increase to sweeten the deal.

Here is our list of players to watch out for whose contracts expire in 2024.

What is a Contract Expiry signing?

A contract expiry signing is securing a player on a free transfer as the contract with their current club enters its final six months.

You sign the player on what is known as a pre-contract agreement, for the player to join your club on a free transfer when their current contract expires.

You can only sign players this way who have less than six months remaining on their contract and are over the age of 23.

TOP TIP: You can assign your scout to focus players who are nearing their contract expiry.

Erling Haaland (OVR 88 – POT 93)

Age: 20

Position(s): ST

Wage: £95,000 a week

Rumour has it that Haaland has a release clause that comes into effect this coming January, so if you want him for free you’d best hope that other clubs don’t swoop in for him.

If Borussia Dortmund does manage to keep hold of him, then you could be getting one of the top prospects in the game on a free.

Not only that, but with a few more seasons under his belt, you could be looking at getting a 90+ OVR striker for nothing.

Phil Foden (OVR 84 – POT 92)

Another exciting prospect, Foden has the potential to be one of the best players in the game.

This seems like a no-brainer. Already a top defender, by the time you sign him de Ligt will be a few years older, one of the best CB’s in the game, and still improving!

You can reinforce with one of the best and still get around a decade of use out of him.

Young, quick, and with great potential, Theo Hernandez is set to become the best left-back the game has to offer.

Hernandez’s wages aren’t extortionate either, so it is a very affordable and sensible signing.

Marquinhos (OVR 87 – POT 90)

Wage: £116,000 a week

A formidable force in the center of the PSG defence, Marquinhos is another possible 90+ OVR player to strengthen your squad.

Already highly talented on and off the ball, after a few seasons you could get a Marquinhos with added pace and strength – as FIFA likes boosting physical stats in Career Mode.

Harry Kane (OVR 90 – POT 90)

He will be just over 30 by the time you’re able to make the deal, but if Robert Lewandowski is anything to go by, Kane will show you that age is just a number.

Rodri (OVR 86 – POT 89)

It seems that CDMs are in short supply these days, with only a handful of top-quality players around in that position.

Rodri could solidify your team in the center of midfield, with the added bonus of being in his prime when entering your team.

Aymeric Laporte (OVR 86 – POT 89)

A teammate at club and now national level with Rodri is his City and Spain companion Laporte.

A ball-playing CB and a rare left-footer, this is another man who will be hitting his prime after a few years.

Likely to be one of the best CB’s around at the time, definitely add him to your watch list.

Marco Verratti (OVR 87 – POT 87)

Don’t let his size put you off, mini Marco is a real warrior in midfield, creating chances and stopping the opposition with equal aplomb.

If you want an all-round midfielder to add to your squad you can’t get much better.

Eden Hazard (OVR 85 – POT 85)

Wage: £206,000 a week

Warning! He will be old! Hazard could also come with a hefty wage cost. We would probably stay away from this deal, but if you want him in your squad be our guest.

An aged Hazard would probably best be utilized as a CAM as opposed to on the wing, where pace is a less important factor.
