Long-haul low-cost startup, Norse Atlantic Airways, has signed an agreement with BOC Aviation to lease 6 used Boeing 787-9 aircraft. All aircraft are to be on long-term leases, with a period of approximately 16 years each, according to the airline. The aircraft from the latest agreement are due for delivery in December 2021.

This follows a similar agreement earlier this year for 9 Boeing 787 aircraft leased from AerCap. The lease agreement was signed back in March and includes 3 Boeing 787-8s and 6 Boeing 787-9s. Deliveries are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2022.

Bjørn Tore Larsen, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Norse said: “We are pleased to expand our leasing relationships to include a lessor the calibre of BOC Aviation as we grow our fleet and continue to build our organization for take-off.”

He continued: “We very much look forward to welcoming customers on both sides of the Atlantic on board these state-of-the-art aircraft as soon as demand for transatlantic travel resumes.”

In total, Norse Atlantic Airways expects to have a fleet of 15 Boeing 787 planes by the time all deliveries are completed. The carrier intends to launch transatlantic flights to New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Paris and Oslo. It says the first flight is expected in December 2021 with sales beginning in Autumn.

A lot of Norse Atlantic Airways’ management team was previously with Norwegian Air, a heavily-indebted airline that previously offered long-haul low-cost services (which have since been suspended due to financial difficulties).
