Our Predictions for the Square Enix Presents Spring 2021 Event

If you’ve been missing regular updates on upcoming games from your favorite developers, look no further than this week’s Square Enix Presents Spring 2021 event.

The showcase, which is set to debut on March 18 at 10am PDT/5pm GMT, is jam-packed with a series of information on games like the latest entry in the Life is Strange series as well as Outriders, Marvel’s Avengers, Just Cause Mobile, Balan Wonderworld, Tomb Raider 25th Anniversary, and new Square Enix Montreal titles.

This is the first digital direct event from Square Enix, so even though the company has lined out much of what we can expect from it, there may still be some surprises lurking around the corner. Ahead of tomorrow’s presentation, let’s take a look at a few possible revelations that we could potentially expect from the upcoming show.

New Final Fantasy XVI announcements

It’s been a few months since Final Fantasy XVI made its debut during Sony’s September 2020 PlayStation showcase. We were treated to a set of lush visuals and a taste of what’s to come for the newest entry in the Final Fantasy series. Though rumored, additional information about the game never arrived during The Game Awards in December.

Now that it’s been another few months since that hotly-anticipated event, it’s about time to expect new details on the game. It’s possible Square Enix could surprise everyone with a bombshell new trailer or details at the game. Given that it’s one of the most hotly-anticipated titles on Square Enix’s slate, it’s high time we hear more about it.

More details on Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis

One of the most intriguing parts of the recent Final Fantasy VII Remake news reveal was a pair of mobile games based in the same universe, particularly Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis. Essentially a compilation of mobile titles telling the entirety of the Final Fantasy narrative, this mobile series will offer a bite-sized chunk of story for fans looking to see it all unfold.

It’s about time we learn additional information about what to expect. With a recent interview in the Japanese publication Famitsu lining out free-to-play and gacha elements, we wouldn’t put it past Square Enix to regale us with juicy little morsels until time to actually play the game.

A new Deus Ex game from Square Enix Montreal

Given Cyberpunk 2077 and its recent release rekindling a mass interest in games with similar themes, it’s a great time to revive Deus Ex. The last entry the series saw was in 2017: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – VR Experience. That’s plenty of time to have drawn up a concept for a new game for fans to tackle, especially with interest at an all-time high. Fans have been returning to games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution en masse ever since Cyberpunk 2077’s debut, so it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that we see it returning in full force.

A previously unannounced remake

Square Enix is positively rife with different properties that are ready for updates. A new Parasite Eve game would be an amazing surprise. Of course, no one would be angry with a Vagrant Story remake either, but it’s tough to gauge where Square Enix’s head is at right now. It seems like the perfect climate, however, for a new remake to rear its head now that the company has been dealing in bringing games to life on Switch and other consoles. We’re unsure which direction this could go in, but it could potentially be a major boon for anyone looking to experience an old game as if it were brand new once more.
