Outspoken former City of Adelaide councillor Anne Moran is officially saying goodbye to North Adelaide after selling the city fringe mansion she has called home for more than 30 years.

Ms Moran – who has fiercely fought to protect the suburb’s heritage identity over the years – and her husband Patrick sold their 1880-built bluestone home at 59 Mills Tce in a $4.36m deal earlier this month.

It was snapped up under the hammer by a family – a result Ms Moran was pleased with given it had served as the perfect home for her own family.

Million-dollar reno will leave prospective buyers in awe

She said the buyers’ children were about the same age as their children were when they moved in 31 years ago.

“We’re very glad it sold but very sad to leave it – it’s way too big for us now though,” she said.

Ms Moran and her husband, who bought the property to be closer to his work, will slowly move into their new home in Gilles St next month.

Fox Real Estate agent Candy Bennett, who sold the property with Edwina Lehmann, said the buyers were local.

She said they, like many other prospective buyers who showed interest, were attracted to both the house and its location.

“It’s a fantastic edifice in an outstanding position,” she said.

“And you’ve got tennis courts you can freely use across the road that you don’t have to maintain.

“We had good attendance at the auction and competitive bidding.”

The two-storey home has eight bedrooms and is on 1152sq m over two titles.

Ms Moran said in September when it was listed that the home had been ideal for her family.

“What we loved about it was that it was like a little slice of the country but it’s in the city,” she said at the time.

“We look out onto the parklands and the golf course, so it really is like a big country house very close to the city.”

Ms Moran said it was much too big for her and her husband now that their children have grown up.

“We’d never move out (of the Adelaide council area) and we would have bought in North Adelaide, but there was nothing for sale,” she said in September.
